Turn and Face the Change 2016
There are lots of valuable community projects out there. None more so than a lottery-funded initiative in Wythenshawe, Manchester’s original garden city. Against a backdrop of community-wide poor health, struggling families and the availability of rubbish food, Real Food Wythenshawe has stepped in.
A handful of determined staff and enthusiastic volunteers now encourage food growing and cooking from scratch.
Over a number of weeks during the summer I met, interviewed and sketched the Real Food team and – to encourage others – their stories and portraits are now exhibited on a fence opposite the Metrolink interchange in the middle of town.
