Imperial War Museum North 2000‑02
Built on the opposite bank to The Lowry at Salford Quays, the Imperial War Museum North is Daniel Libeskind’s first permanent building in the UK.
It was a truly fascinating building to document. I felt very fortunate to have won the commission to photograph the construction of Libeskind’s first UK project. As part of the commission I made hours of sound recordings on the site and interviewed workers, engineers, architects, and specialist sub-contractors. It was the first time I had experimented with sound and, with Andrew Revell, produced a soundtrack that accompanied a synchronised slideshow projected onto the gallery walls.
